                     Solicitors In Cyprus

The term 'solicitor' is commonly used in Cyprus. However, the only country which has a profession of  solicitors is the
U.K. Cyprus, generally, uses the term Advocate.

There are about 700 Law Firms in Cyprus. Some of them have obtained their qualifications in the U.K.  Therefore they
may be solicitors or barristers.

However, only a small minority of them hold U.K. Practising Certificates ( this firms proprietor renews it every
year).Consequently, whilst such lawyers are on the Roll, they are not entitled to use the word solicitor after their name.
They do not have to subscribe to the Compensation Fund, submit annual audited accounts  nor regulated by the
Solicitors Regulations Authority (an arm of the Law Society) which has an extremely strong regulatory system.
Indemnity insurance is not required by the CBA but U.K. solicitors who practice in other E.U. countries do need such
insurance if it  is not required in the host state.
